Melamine Faced Chipboard or MFC is a type of engineered wood with a smooth surface. It is made using wood chips, then formed into particle board using heat and pressure and bonded to melamine resin impregnated paper. The Melamine layer makes it water resistant, and helps resist scratches, and increases the aesthetics. It is cheaper than MDF or Medium Density Fiberboard.

I bought handles for this, thinking it didn't come with any, but it does. And they are fine. It's a great unit, especially with the sink that works well as a wide unit with loads of space for your bathroom items on the back edge - working as a good compromise between a single and double sink.
