Leonie Asked :Hello, please explain what a thermostatic valve in a Grohe shower unit does that is different from the "manual" version of what looks very similar, e.g. MFC: 26224001?
The thermostatic cartridge works just like a thermostat to control the temperature of the water. It uses a wax and spring configuration to measure and monitor the water temperature and automatically adjusts the hot and cold water mix to maintain a more precise water temperature. The manual cartridge is open and closed and will only deliver precisely if supplied. It controls the temperature and water flow in the shower by mixing the hot and cold supplies in different proportions. These valves are generally unsuited to UK water systems, and there are no safety features, e.g. anti-scald.
