Our plug seems to have sunk into the hole and not be coming up when we twist the mechanism. How can we open the plug as we cannot drain any water now?

It could be down to two things, one of the cogs within the mechanism may have broken, not allowing the pop-up function to work. The other could be that the pop-up wire could have come loose at the bottom of the waste, which will need to be re-plugged.

It should just pull off; however, if it seems tight, you could spray some lubricant onto the back and then it should just pull off.
