It is a small appliance to heat a portion of your mirror. It prevents steam and condensation from collecting on the surface, making it no longer necessary to wipe the mirror after a hot shower/bath.

Landscape

Landscape orientation is the positioning of a mirror, or accessory using its width, so that it is more wide than it is tall. Widths are normally more than the height, covering a greater area and reflecting more light.

Portrait

Portrait orientation is the one in which the longer sides of the mirror are vertical. It looks like the orientation in a portrait, or a photograph of a person and hence the name. Typically this kind of mirror is taller than it is wide, just like real life pictures of people.

I presume the demister pad prevents the mirror from sitting flush with the wall. How much extra depth does the pad add, and how does this affect the mirror's mounting?

The Jackson mirror has two metal plates on the back, which has a loop that protrudes to accommodate the L shape screw hooks supplied with the mirror. The gap (which you can about get your little finger behind) gives enough room for the demister pad. The demister pad is only 1mm thick, and the terminal block which joins the cable is 7mm thick.

Demister pad is a simple, efficient, ultra-slim heating pad that fits inconspicuously behind the bathroom mirror. It needs the power to operate.
